CPTC Presentation to NCI’s Board of Scientific Advisors Webcast

In June of this year, members of the CPTC community provided a program update to NCI’s Board of Scientific Advisors (BSA), which was very well received. The BSA, consisting of 35 members from a number of disciplines in science and medicine, advises NCI’s senior leadership on a wide variety of matters concerning scientific program policy and progress and future direction of extramural research programs.

The presentations were especially focused on how CPTC is bridging the gap between laboratory advances and clinical utility of proteins by having developed a pipeline with greater reliability/accuracy, through the introduction of metrics at the discovery stage, and efficiency. by the introduction of a pre-clinical stage called “verification.” Verification may provide a very reliable GO/NO GO decision point and potentially save the medical diagnostic industry millions of dollars and many years of development because only the strongest candidates will move into clinical validation—and with much greater confidence.

In just a few short years, CPTC investigators have made significant advances in the field that will affect the way every investigator does protein biomarker discovery research. To learn about this endeavor, and other tremendous advances being made by the CPTC initiative, please view the webcast presentation that was made to the BSA.
